The historical principle of the poem "Plpul of Avarayr" by fr. Ghevond Alishan and further artistic realizations

Bazmavep 2020 / 3-4, pp. 38-60

In the article is studied the poem "Plpul of Avarayr" by the ancestor of Armenian literature, his further realizations in Armenian fiction.

With his "Songs of the Ancestor" Ghevond Alishan established the historical right to a new literary direction, romanticism, which was started in the 20s of the 19th century by Harutyun Alamdaryan with his lyric poetry.

The theme of Vardanants in Armenian fiction begins with Yeghishe's patriotic book "History of Vardan and the Armenian War". The Vardanats War has always been in the center of attention of Armenian cultural figures: writers, poets, painters, sculptors, composers. But Ghevond Alishan’s poem is a marvel of pure and high inspiration, a soul-stirring style.

In the 60s of the 19th century, Rapael Patkanyan wrote his poem "The Death of Brave Vardan Mamikonyan", Mikael Nalbandyan wrote his famous "Parody", and Petros Duryan wrote the short line "Battle Song of Vardanants". In the 80s, Hovhannes Hovhannisyan addressed the topic with his famous works "Prince of Syunik", "Tghmut", "Vardanants Day".
