The significance of Bazmavep from the point of historical science

With the combination of historical facts and through critical analysis the 175-year-old path of “Bazmavep” – the “Patriarch” of Armenian journals, pub­lished on the St. Lazarus Island in Venice since 1843, is shown in the article as well as the publication of Armenological, particularly important articles and studies of historical science which provided an indisputable reputation and a prolific name for the journal. Having brought together the talented representa­tives of Armenian and foreign Armenologist historians, “Bazmavep” could provide a historical-philological highest level in the field of history and culture, and it is not by chance that the absolute majority of the historical studies published in it have successfully withstood the rigorous criticism of time and preserved its scientific and professional value even in our days. Over the course of its activities, “Bazmavep” journal managed to maintain its own image, having its unique trend and approaches, all of which are based on scientific content and historicity, impartiality and truth. The journal was able to develop the best traditions of Armenian historical science. Numerous contentious issues of historical science have been first raised on its pages and many fundamental questions have found their answers. The journal has also become at some extent a guide for developing separate themes of historical science. The articles of historical science on the pages of “Bazmavep” are analyzed according to the historical periods, including the ideas reflecting or related to the progressive national and social movements of the time, the modern manifestations of histori­cal and sociological mind.

With the examination of its articles on history “Bazmavep” has not only contributed to the dissemination of educational and historiographical ideas within the Armenian society, but also has drawn the readers close to the values ​​of civilization and created historical and cultural ties for the everlasting of the politically separated Armenian nation. Scientific articles on the ancient and medie­val centuries, new and modern times, particularly the works of the 5th century authors of manuscripts, the fundamental questions of the formation of the Armenian people, the Armenian Question and the Armenian Genocide are discussed on the pages of the journal. The article enables through the journal to get an idea on the development of the scientific mind in history.
