Les arméniens et les Iurgiani à Caffa au 15ème siècle et leur onomasticon

Bazmavep 2017 / 1 - 2, pp. 254-266

The Armenians migrated to Crimea and formed their diaspora there starting in the 11th century. In the 13th century, after the Mongol conquest of Asia Minor, they became quite numerous in the Crimea. During the wars of the Mongolian
and Turkish emirates of the 13th century, more and more Armenians found asylum in the Pontic region, and later in Crimea. In the early 15th century, we find references to the Armenian bishop and the Armenian diocese; there were several Armenian churches in Caffa. The city had become a center of Armenian commerce and culture.
This article deals with the source data of the Caffae Massariae reflecting the Armenian population of the city in the years 1423 and 1461 and its onomastikon. Further, in addition to the people, whom we can directly or indirectly identify as Armenians of Сaffa, it deals with another group of the population of Caffa, the iurgiani.
