The article presents the range of names used to refer to the famous mega­lithic monument located near Sisian, including an analysis of the origins and le­gends as­sociated with each name. It was shown that the name Zorats Kar (as well as the versions Zo­rats Karer, Zorakar, Zorakarer) has mistakenly been asso­ciated with a turkified version – Ghoshun dash– of the old Armenian name Ka­ra­hunge.
The article presents evidence that the collective old Armenian name for such mo­numents was “Karahunge” which means “bouquet or bunch of stones”. It was shown that Ghoshun dash is the turkified version of this name.
