The Dadivank’s XIII century fresco showing thaumaturgist St. Nicholas being throned

Bazmavep 2015 / 3 - 4, pp. 149-166

Four figures are set on a blue background delimited by quite a large red line: Jesus Christ, the thaumaturgist St. Nicholas, an angel, and Mary. They have been painted by a very talented artist who used a fluid and most expressive touch. Each figure’s feet are set on red cushions placed above the brown earth; their names are painted in white next to each face, standing out against the blue background. There is also a central inscription in which it is possible to read the name “Mikael” and the date 1297. Such inscriptions are in classical Armenian type.
